career summary
Paul Hemmings has over the past 25 years gained extensive hands on international business development and management experience in the areas of sport and recreation, tourism, hospitality and leisure service.
Prior to establishing Leisure Futures Paul was a management consultant with the Brisbane based Gibson's Consulting. Paul has gained extensive high level corporate experience and before entering the consulting industry held the position of Director, Business Development with Omni Leisure Pty Ltd. Omni was established in 1998, by its major shareholder Macquarie Bank as a leisure management and consulting company. Paul was responsible for developing Omni's Australasian business activities to include a diverse range of leisure acquisitions, mergers and management contracts in the hospitality, sport and entertainment, theme parks, major events and tourism infrastructure sectors.
Prior to joining Omni Paul was General Manager Northern Region for Delaware North Australia Pty Ltd. Delaware North's four independently operating units are industry leaders in traditional concessions and fine dining, hospitality and recreational services, sports and leisure facilities management and retail operations.
He was also National Operations and Business Development Manager for Airport Fine Foods Pty Ltd, a subsidiary company of the Federal Airports Corporation. Airport Fine Foods markets Australian and international gourmet food and wine products to predominately outbound passengers through its seven retail stores situated at Sydney, Brisbane and Perth International Airports.
During 1990 to 1994 Paul assumed the position of Business Development Manager with the Spotless Services Group. This Group operates in Australia and New Zealand, with key business activities focused on a diversified range of facility management components. This includes catering and venue management operations, textiles rental and laundries, cleaning and property management services.
Prior to his arrival in Australia in 1988 Paul Hemmings gained extensive senior management experience working with Hilton, Sheraton and the Inter Continental Hotel Groups in Africa, Bermuda, Asia, Europe and the Americas.
Paul has a Masters in Business Administration, specialising in recreation and leisure management (Australian Graduate School of Management / Charles Sturt University) and holds a number of United Kingdom leisure management qualifications. Paul is further advancing his postgraduate education and is currently looking at commencing his PhD thesis examining the impact that government facility funding has on sports and recreation participation.
